Out of the Blue

Lately, I have been obsessed with the color blue. Royal blue velvets, sapphire blue silks, peacock suede and all the variations in between. I guess you can say, I have a love affair with this calming and also energizing hue. Blue is such a classic color and can be used in so many ways. For instance, you can add a navy blue wall color to a room to create drama… or use an antiqued french blue accent piece for a soft and sophisticated addition.

Take a look at a few spaces I have fallen head over heels for and tell me what you think.

Loft Living

Loft living has come a long way from what they have once been known to be. Around the Industrial Revolution loft spaces were acquired by artists who were looking for a place to live and work in the city that was cheap. Nowadays, living in a loft is not so bad. Actually pretty amazing from what I have seen. These open spaces showcase the industrial roots exposing mechanical systems and plumbing. Floor to ceiling windows which allow for bright light to shine into your living space…and lastly, no walls. You have open range to create an open living space that is reflective of the occupants life-style.

Elegant Edge

Elegant rooms showcase fine design featuring style and grace. They are neither flashy nor stuffy. Rather cleverly designed functional spaces. The best way to create an elegant space of your own is to minimize the use of current trends in your home. Instead focus on achieving an elegant edge utilizing stylish pieces that are classic and will be around for many years to come.  There are a few things to keep in mind to help you along the way.

1. Introduce classic lines and soft curves.

2. Add comfortable fabrics and textures.

3. Keep in mind the natural flow of light (do not block with furniture placement).

4. Maintain symmetrical balance and proportions

Ultimately maintain a youthful, fresh approach to a traditional design aesthetic. This is the perfect recipe for a perfectly designed space. Take a look at a few inspirational pictures to get you on your way.

Making an Entrance

Hello lovely people! I wanted to talk about entryways today. So many times I go to homes and see entry spaces that are not utilized to their best potential. An entryway should make a fabulous first impression. This space is the ultimate introduction to your home.

In creating or redesigning your entryway remember to keep in mind the size and functionality of your space. Scale is an important factor in making this space work. If you have a large space to work with choose pieces that create a statement. If your space is not so spacious you can still pack a punch by choosing furnishing and decor wisely.

Take a look at some inspiration to get your wheels turning.

Makeup Vanity Inspiration

How does one create the perfect makeup vanity? Well there are few essentials that you will need and I have a list to help you along the way.

1. Table

This is a must of course. Whether deciding to go vintage, modern or contemporary your makeup table should speak to you. This ultimately is the most important piece of furniture, so choose wisely. Make sure the size is perfect for what you need when getting dressed and ready for your day. You do not need a table/desk that lacks space because it will not be functional. Also take in consideration the amount of storage you would like you table/desk to have when choosing the perfect piece that fits you.

2. Chair

If you are one who spends 10 to 15 minutes applying your makeup then a vanity stool or bench might work out perfectly for you. On the other hand, if you need a bit more time (like myself) then you might want to gravitate towards a chair with a back. Dining chairs tend to be great when pairing with your vanity table.

3. Mirror

Now you have to be able see what you’re doing. Without a mirror who knows how things would turn out…lol! When picking out your mirror think about whether you require it to be stationary or if you would prefer hanging your mirror. Hanging a mirror gives you the option to make changes to your makeup space and give it a different look more easily.  Also keep in mind the proportion of your mirror to your table. It should be in perfect balance when pairing the two together.

4. Add Charm

The last detail I would say is adding accessories. Placing your beautiful accessories will create the ultimate space for you. Allowing you to look forward to getting dressed in the morning. You can use all kinds of beautiful trays, jewelry stands or boxes that will not only display your makeup necessities but also contain them. Also adding your favorite perfume bottles so that they are readily accessible would be both functional and beautiful.

Remember in creating this wonderful space choose your furniture and décor wisely. You want this space to be lovely and make a statement.
