Perfect Pair

Poet Friedrich Schiller once said “There is room in the smallest cottage for a happy loving pair.” This is absolutely true. There is nothing like having an understanding with the other because of the similarities between the two. Completely insynch. Now I know this quote was probably meant to speak for a loving couple. That’s great! But I am talking about your furniture. A balance and compatibility between two pieces that just work. That is what I call a “perfect pair.”

The power of two creates symmetry and a harmonious balance within the space. The commonality between the two, the line, structure, size, and color create the ultimate statement.

Sitting Pretty

I must say I think I am a bit obsessed with seating, but who isn’t? Right…? Well, I know my husband is going to be over me if I add one more chair to our apartment. I just can’t help myself sometimes. There is nothing like a statement piece of furniture. You know the kind that stops everyone in their tracks and becomes the center of attention.

Strategically thinking about what type of seating will suite a space is a designers top priority. It is important to chose seating that best fits the personality of the owner/owners. The practicality of how the piece will be used in the space. Does it add drama and balance to the space? Is the color, comfort and size a good fit for the clients needs? These are all very important questions to consider when making the right choice for the space. Whether you are looking for a new sofa, accent or dining chair be mindful of the things I previously stated. It will make for easier hunting when you go out to find your perfect match for your space.

In my ventures in looking for statement seating I found some inspiration to steer me in the right direction. Take a look and tell me what you think.

Adding fresh flowers to your home

Bringing home fresh flowers to your home can make wonders of a difference to your living space. Fresh cut flowers add both beautiful color and fragrance to a room.
Bringing life to your space, fresh flowers are wonderful to look at and admire. The unfortunate thing is while the days progress they can begin to wilt and dry becoming an eye-soar. Well let me give you some tips on what I have learned over time. The hard way!

You could help with the longevity of your beautiful fresh cut flowers by ensuring they are maintained in the proper conditions. Your flowers should be keep in a cool, dry and fairly dark place. It can be tempting to put flowers on the window sill but doing so causes your flowers to mature much quicker. This will cause flowers to dry out and wilt faster.

Another important factor is water. Fresh water that is. We as humans like to drink fresh water throughout the day, right? You typically will not drink water that has been left over night or has been in a glass for a few days. Flowers being living things are the same. They like a fresh cup/vase of water too. Replenishing the water frequently will ensure the stems will not dry out. Changing the water also helps prevent bacteria build up in the stems.

This leads me to trimmimg the stems about 1/2 inch from the bottom. This should be done when your new flowers arrive to your home ( their new home). When transporting your flowers the ends begin to dry out immediately causing cells to die. This can make it difficult for your flowers to absorb water when being placed in their new vessel. When trimming the flower stems make sure you have a sharp pair of shears, trim stems on a diagonal and remove the access leaves before placing in the vase. This will allow for your new flowers to drink the water more efficiently.

I must say once you bring a fresh bouquet home you will be in love with how they make your home look and feel. Once you master how to maintain your fresh cut flowers…oh my you will bring them home often. Trust me!

Here’s how I incorporated a fresh cut flower arrangement in my home. My amazing husband had these delivered to me. He’s the best! I put them right on our coffee table.

Now here are some interior design ideas with flower arrangements done beautifully.

I came across these fashion editorials and thought what a beautiful way to add flowers to your home. Along with your fresh bouquet…why not frame one of these and place near by your vase. Absolutely gorgeous!

Hello Lovelies! Have you noticed Neon Signs are popping up everywhere in design lately? You can find them in many different design styles; traditional, modern, contemporary just to name a few…and I must say they look great. I even have been considering adding a neon sign to my own wall.

Take a look at some of the inspiration I found and tell me what you think of this trend. Is it something you could add to your own home?

Feminine and Flirty

Being a girly girl, I love lots of pinks, reds and purples. Glamorous detail such as; fur throws, animal print and metallic accessories. All these things make a home sweet home for me. Incorporating a room or two to the leading lady is a must in my opinion. Sorry gentleman but I am sure you understand. What’s that saying, “A happy wife means a happy life.” Just saying! A woman needs a place to unwind and be delighted in all the beautiful things around her.

Ladies when creating your feminine sanctuary remember these key elements:

1. Use soft to the touch fabrics.

2. Choose your color palette wisely. For example, pinks, purples or pastels.

3. Use pretty accessories (metallics are everything). Kind-of-like the jewelry in the room.

4. Choose furniture with curves down to the legs.

Here are some images to help you along the way.
