Sitting Pretty

I must say I think I am a bit obsessed with seating, but who isn’t? Right…? Well, I know my husband is going to be over me if I add one more chair to our apartment. I just can’t help myself sometimes. There is nothing like a statement piece of furniture. You know the kind that stops everyone in their tracks and becomes the center of attention.

Strategically thinking about what type of seating will suite a space is a designers top priority. It is important to chose seating that best fits the personality of the owner/owners. The practicality of how the piece will be used in the space. Does it add drama and balance to the space? Is the color, comfort and size a good fit for the clients needs? These are all very important questions to consider when making the right choice for the space. Whether you are looking for a new sofa, accent or dining chair be mindful of the things I previously stated. It will make for easier hunting when you go out to find your perfect match for your space.

In my ventures in looking for statement seating I found some inspiration to steer me in the right direction. Take a look and tell me what you think.

African Flare

Lately, as I have been browsing the internet I have been fascinated with interiors with a touch of African influence. In my search I have come across a few great ways to incorporate African details to a space without looking overdone and keeping a space modern. I have even picked up a few new pieces to add to my own home, which I absolutely love. Check out some inspiration I have found that helped me along the way.

Design Trend

Hello Lovelies! Have you noticed Neon Signs are popping up everywhere in design lately? You can find them in many different design styles; traditional, modern, contemporary just to name a few…and I must say they look great. I even have been considering adding a neon sign to my own wall.

I love the idea of creating art with words and putting them up on a wall. Neon signs are a great way to display words that mean a lot to you… or a mantra that you see on your way out to start your day. Take a look at some of the inspiration I found and tell me what you think of this trend. Is it something you could add to your own home?

The Sculpture Trend

An old classic is resurging in interior design for 2014. Statues, sculptures and busts oh my! Just the other day I went to Home Goods and saw a whole display table dedicated to Greece and Roman sculpture. Even in magazines you can find a bust or sculpture inspired by classics everywhere. Just wait you will notice it soon. This new trend is a great way to add art to your home in a 3 dimensionally way. Do you think this is a trend you would incorporate in your own home? Take a look below for a few decor ideas.

Feminine and Flirty

Being a girly girl, I love lots of pinks, reds and purples. Glamorous detail such as; fur throws, animal print and metallic accessories. All these things make a home sweet home for me. Incorporating a room or two to the leading lady is a must in my opinion. Sorry gentleman but I am sure you understand. What’s that saying, “A happy wife means a happy life.” Just saying! A woman needs a place to unwind and be delighted in all the beautiful things around her.

Ladies when creating your feminine sanctuary remember these key elements:

1. Use soft to the touch fabrics.

2. Choose your color palette wisely. For example, pinks, purples or pastels.

3. Use pretty accessories (metallics are everything). Kind-of-like the jewelry in the room.

4. Choose furniture with curves down to the legs.

Here are some images to help you along the way.

All About Flamingos

The flamingo decor trend is not over. Starting last year the big, beautiful and bright flamingo was spotted in the world of design…and I must say this elegant bird is perfect for the upcoming warm season. Whether simply inspired by the color of the flamingo or the flamingo itself you can use this inspiration to make your room pop. Just one quick tip, when integrating any animal into your home use sparingly and strategically. This will keep your space from looking as if there was a theme were the flamingo is strutting everywhere in your home.

Here are a few pictures for inspiration. Tell me what you think and how you would integrate the flamingo in your home.

Monochromatic Rooms

Now you may think why would I every want my space to be all one color? Where is the fun in that? My sentiments exactly, that is until most recently. I use to think monochromatic rooms were a bit boring but have come to realized they can turn out quite the contrary.

When designing such a space you have to be intentional in your choices. First, choosing your color palette is key. Pick a color and stick to it. Keep in mind where this color choice is going. If designing the bedroom you may want to pick a relaxing color. If designing your living room you have more of an option to go a bit more bold with color.

After you have decided on your color start choosing variations of this color. Also add lots of texture. Leathers, velvets, metallics oh my! You can also make the room more interesting by adding a complimenting color. This creates contrast and interest.  Take a look at the following images for some inspiration to get you started in the right direction.
